About

SF Bay DH is currently an informal group of individuals in the San Francisco Bay Area with a shared interest in digital humanities research, tool and project development, and/or pedagogy. Our goal is to foster a vibrant digital humanities community by raising awareness of local projects, tools and people, as well as promoting events (lectures, workshops, free classes, etc.) held in the region.

We aim to start holding in-person meet-ups in the fall or winter, but in the meantime, our mailing list is open for discussions and announcements.

Instead of creating a new directory just for information about digital humanities activity in the Bay Area, we're aggregating information from two large international directories: DHCommons (projects and the people who work on them) and Bamboo DiRT (digital research tools). To add your information to our list, create an account on DHCommons and fill in your personal profile, or create a profile for your project(s). If you're a local developer of DH tools, check and see if your tool(s) appear in DiRT, or add them to that directory. Information about projects, people and tools from Bay Area institutions will automatically be cross-posted to this site in the near future. We're currently pulling in people, projects, and tools from DHCommons and DiRT that have been affiliated with the following institutions:

  • Berkeley
  • Cal State East Bay
  • San Jose State
  • Santa Clara University
  • Stanford
  • St. Mary's College
  • UC Davis
  • University of San Francisco

If you don't see your institution on the list, let us know!

Holding an upcoming event or workshop? Tell us and we'll add it to the calendar we'll be launching soon. (If you already run a calendar of digital humanities events for your institution, please send us the link!)

We're looking for help with organizing SF Bay DH; get in touch if you're interested in volunteering in some capacity.
